The integrated out front mount and headlight

Ravemen FR1000 Bike Headlight Out Front Mount Combination Review

The Ravemen FR1000 is the brightest bike headlights in Ravemen’s FR series and features an integrated mount and light design. It takes the sandwich style design of the FR lights to the next level by making the light itself the mount instead of an accessory. Retail price for the FR1000 is an affordable $74.95 which includes Garmin, Wahoo, Bryton adapters and even a GoPro bottom mount. Ravemen has utilized a 3000mAh battery with a USB-C charging port and powerbank functionality to charge other devices. The FR1000 has a single LED which puts out 1000 lumen and has an adjustable beam angle from horizontal to 30 degrees downward.

The Ravemen FR1000 combines a bright 1000 lumen output and a dual-sided out-front mount into a convenient single product.

UNBOXING

The Ravemen FR1000 comes in an orange and black cardboard box with a front cutout that shows the light. Inside the box you’ll find:

If you have an existing out-front mount you’d need to remove it to install the FR1000 as it’s a complete mount and light.

MOUNTING

One of the key features of the FR1000 is the integrated mount design and two piece construction that lets you use the FR1000 as an out-front mount. The clamp piece attaches to 31.8 or 35mm diameter handlebars using a different combination of shims. It’s one sided, single bolt design that attaches to round handlebars and should support the weight of normal accessories. The main light piece has a female top mount to allow you to attach bike computers as well as a GoPro bottom attachment for cameras or additional bike lights. Out of the box, the FR1000 has the Garmin top puck attached but there is also a separate Wahoo and even a Bryton puck included. We’re surprised to see a Bryton mount which has slightly thicker tabs than a Garmin while the Wahoo is just a Garmin mount rotated 90 degrees. The main light portion also has a quick release tab design that allows it to be removed from the clamp for charging or if you park your bike outdoors.

The entire lens has a hinge that lets you tilt the beam down up to 30 degrees.

FIT & FINISH

The Ravemen FR1000 takes Ravemen’s FR combo light design to the next level with higher output and a more integrated design. Instead of a light that attaches to an out-front mount, the FR1000 is an out front mount itself with a top and bottom mount. The FR1000 has a two piece design with a front light portion and a handlebar piece. There is a quick-release between the two pieces that lets you quickly remove the light and any accessories from the bike without unbolting it from the handlebar. With the higher 1000 lumen output and large 3000 mAh battery, the FR1000 has a combination of aluminum and plastic construction to help dissipate heat.

Ravemen has also incorporated a lens adjustment mechanism that lets you tilt only the LED portion from 0 degrees to 30 degrees downward. That lets you fine tune the beam without having to rotate the entire clamp which is essential for this integrated design. It’s a similar design to the KOM Cycling Quick Release lights with a sturdy full-width hinge. There are also textured rubber pieces on the sides of the light that help break up the surface of the light and provide a non-slip surface to hold the light.

The FR1000 has a single LED with simple horizontal diffusers and a frosted edge to help spread the light.

The FR1000 has a single LED with a TIR style compact lens which puts out up to 1000 lumen of output. It’s a simple lens design with horizontal diffusers and additional frosted sections to help spread the light. The beam shape it produces is a rectangle with basic horizontal diffusers to reduce glare so you still need to dip the light downward as a courtesy to oncoming traffic. Ravemen has added a hinge to the body which lets you adjust it in 10 degree increments up to 30 degrees downward. The lens is also slightly curved around the sides which helps with side visibility which is a feature that is important when riding in cities or when crossing intersections.

USER INTERFACE

The FR1000 has a single button user interface with a side mounted button. It is illuminated to also show the battery status when the light is on or if you do a single tap of the button while the light is off. The colors are either green (40-100%), red (5-40%) or flashing red (0-5%) which gives you a rough estimate of the remaining battery. Holding the button turns the light on and off while holding the button for 3 seconds will toggle the status of the auto on/off mode. It’s a simple sensor based feature that puts the light to sleep if no motion is detected for 2 minutes to help conserve the battery. The FR1000 also has mode memory which ensures the light always remembers what mode it was on when it was turned off. A single press of the button with the light on toggles through the five available modes. With the single-level design, you do have to cycle through the flash mode to adjust the brightness which can be distracting at night.

LIGHT OUTPUT

Ravemen has pre-programmed the light with five output modes which includes four constant modes and one flash mode. The constant modes go from the full output high with 1000 lumen and 2.5 hour runtime down to an eco mode with 150 lumen and 10 hour runtime. There is only a single flash mode which is a night-time style low/high flash with 500 lumen and the longest 39 hour runtime. We were surprised that Ravemen didn’t include a daytime flash as with the FR500 and other FR lights.

At the full 1000 lumen the FR1000 has a bright and wide beam that is great for riding at faster speeds.

The FR1000 produces a nice wide and bright beam from the single LED. While it lacks a proper sharp beam cutoff like the Magicshine HORI or Lupine SL Grano, with the light angled down it you can use it at full power on busy trails. In the high mode the light is more than bright enough for dark trails with a spot beam that extends down the road for riding at higher speeds. The combination mount and light design is also thinner than the FR500 with an out-front mount which results in a sleeker look.

THE VERDICT

Overall, we found the Ravemen FR1000 to be a bright and clever light and out-front mount. Ravemen has taken their classic FR light design and combined it with an actual out-front mount to provide daytime and nighttime visibility. It’s a nice option for riders looking for a bright headlight without the need for a separate headlight. We were impressed that Ravemen includes all the adapters for Garmin, Wahoo, Bryton and even GoPro with the FR1000 instead of selling them separately. The only negative with the FR1000 is that it lacks a true daytime flash mode and has a single level menu which requires cycling through the flash mode. That said, the Ravemen FR1000 is a bright combination bike headlight and out front mount at an affordable price point.
