The ultimate travel repair stand

Feedback Sports Pro Ultralight Bike Repair Stand Review

The Feedback Sports Pro Ultralight is the brand’s lightest and more portable repair stand. At only 10.8lb, the tripod style repair stand is easy to bring to bike events or tuck away in a closet when not being used. Feedback Sports has recently upgraded the stand with an improved spinner knob and clamp body for a stronger hold and more durability. Retail price for the Pro Ultralight is $325 which puts it in the middle of Feedback Sport’s folding repair stand lineup. The stand is constructed from lightweight 6063 aluminum and features their signature red anodized finish along with an impressive 85 lb weight capacity. Included with the stand is a zippered fabric travel bag that helps protect the stand during travel or storage.

The Feedback Sports Pro Ultralight bike repair stand combines high quality materials with a compact folding design.

UNBOXING

The Feedback Sports Pro Ultralight bike repair stand is shipped in a large unmarked cardboard box. Inside the box you’ll find the fabric travel bag, along with a luggage tag attached to the handle, with the repair stand folded inside it ready to use.

FIT & FINISH

Visually, the Feedback Sports Pro Ultralight bike repair stand has a classic tripod style design with three expanding legs and a vertical extending center post. The legs expand to a 54” diameter to provide additional stability. As with the other Pro stands, the Pro Ultralight has a distinctive red anodized finish on everything but the clamp attachment. Metal clasps on the center section are used to secure the tripod legs and adjust the vertical height of the stand. Compared to budget stands, like the MaxxHaul 80725, all the touch points feel high-quality with ergonomic designs and ample use of metal instead of plastic.

The stand provides full 360 rotation and 360 angle adjustment for accessing hard to reach spots on a bike or just for washing a bike.

The big upgrade with the Pro Ultralight is the updated clamp which now features a slide lock + spinner knob design. That makes it easier to quickly open and close the clamp by sliding forward and backward. The clamp jaw is limited to a 1.78” opening which is one of the smallest in the Feedback Sports range which could be a negative depending on your bike geometry.  Once you have the clamp in roughly the right location it’s easy to grab the metal knob and rotate the clamp inward or outward. The design isn’t as satisfying as the higher-end ratchet designs, but it is easy to use with one hand and feels high quality. To achieve the compact folding design, there is an additional metal handle at the clamp attachment point that can be loosened to fold the entire clamp mechanism down for storage.

One of the big upgrades with the Pro Ultralight is the improved clamp and slide / knob design that is designed for easier use and more durability.

USABILITY

We’ve been impressed with the previous Feedback Sports tools and ratchets we’ve reviewed, so we had high expectations coming into the Ultralight repair stand review. Right out of the fabric travel bag, the stand looks and feels premium with a surprisingly light aluminum construction and the bright red finish. Even the bag itself is a nice touch with a full length zipper and Feedback Sports branding on the exterior that feels durable. Setting up the repair stand is as easy as sliding the tripod arms down and then locking it in place with the metal clasps. As with other tripod designs, it’s a little finicky to find the right position to hold to move the arms and requires holding as close to the top so you can smoothly push/pull the arms.

Although the tripod design requires more space, it’s stable and secure.

With our lighter road bikes, the updated clamp design had no trouble clamping down on the seatpost and rotating the bike at any angle. The clamp is one of the most important parts of a bike stand, with cheaper stands often barely able to hold a bike at higher angles, so we’re happy Feedback Sports put the extra time and money into the clamp. The company also provides replacement and service parts which ensures you won’t have issues down the line. We also liked the lightweight design which makes it easy to move around and even use for bike washing or small tasks like chain replacements.

THE VERDICT

Overall, we found the Feedback Sports Pro Ultralight to be a well made and highly portable repair stand. Feedback Sports has taken their already popular Ultralight repair stand and upgraded the clamp for more durability and faster adjustments. The sliding lock combined with the spinner knob makes it easier to quickly attach or remove bikes from the clamp. As with all Feedback Sports products, all the touch points feel high quality and intuitive to use. We appreciated the compact folding design that allows the entire stand to fit easily in the included travel bag for transportation or storage. The only negatives would be the premium price point and the fact that the tripod legs, like most tripod designs, can be finicky to slide up and fold. That said, if you’re looking for a high quality repair stand that is easy to travel and store then the Feedback Sports Pro Ultralight is a great option.
