This is an improved version of their popular Range click style torque wrench and offers better feel, ergonomics and a wider torque range. The Range Click Torque Wrench has a $120 retail price and features a 2-14 Nm range. What sets the torque wrench apart from the others on the market is Feedback Sports premium red anodized finish, a compact TPU fold up case and the 13 included bits. UNBOXING
The Feedback Sports uses a compact cardboard box with black and white branding and a nice glossy graphic of torque wrench on the front. Inside the box you’ll find the TPU fold up case with call bits / torque wrench stored inside it. As with other Feedback Sports products, the brand is committed to sustainability so the box uses recycled materials and no plastics or extra packing materials.
FIT & FINISH
Visually, the Feedback Sports Range Click Torque Wrench matches the brand’s iconic design with an anodized red aluminum body and premium details. It’s a beautiful torque wrench with an aluminum body, dial and head that would look at home in a bike shop. This is inline with Feedback Sports sustainable product approach which emphasizes recycled materials and serviceability. Although this approach costs more, it’s a welcome change from disposable bike tools with questionable accuracy. On the bottom of the torque wrench you have a knurled dial for adjusting the torque setting and then a red anodized main body with basic branding and a torque gauge. At the top of the torque wrench you have a click style ratchet with a reverse switch.
Unlike most torque wrenches on the market, the Range torque wrench is actually a dual direction torque wrench which means you use its torque down right-handed or left-handed bolts. At only 144 mm or 5.6” inches long, the Range torque wrench is quite compact which makes it easy to transport. Feedback Sports even includes a TPU fold up case to make it easy to transport or store the torque wrench and all the accessories in one place. It’s a simple design that uses elastic bands and a few buttons to keep everything organized and protected. The outside of the case has a shiny rubberized texture that is claimed to be weather resistant. Two buttons keep the case folded and then inside it two folding fabric pieces that velcro in place to cover the tools. Compared to other torque wrenches that use plastic cases, this fold up design is more sustainable and far more compact.
To adjust the torque setting, there is a dial on the bottom of the torque wrench with knurling along the center. It’s a subtle but premium touch that provides excellent grip to make small adjustments. Each rotation of the dial is a 0.17 Nm adjustment and has nice haptic feedback with a distinct click. However, with such an odd number for each rotation and only whole numbers shown on the gauge you’ll have to make educated guesses if you want fractional torque settings. The Range Click Torque Wrench has a working range of 2-14 Nm which covers most jobs on a bicycle. To support ambidextrous use, the Range has a dual-sided gauge which shows even numbers on one side and odd numbers on the other. It’s a fairly small display with the numbers packed together closely and an aluminum indicator that slides upward as you increase the torque.
The indicator can be a bit confusing as there are visible metal elements above the aluminum that can be mistaken for the indicator initially. While we wish the gauge was larger, the numbers appear to be etched in place with a high-contrast white paint that should hold up to heavy use. As far as bits, Feedback Sports includes 13 S2 rated steel bits as part of the Range Click Torque Wrench kit. A labeled plastic tray holds 10 of the bits together while the three 50 mm extended length bits are stored in dedicated elastic hoops on the case. For the standard sized bits you have a 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 mm Hex as well as a T10, T25 and T30 Torx bits. These should cover almost all standard bike maintenance and also have engravings on each bit to help keep everything organized.
The bit tray design is shared with other Feedback Sports tools like the Reflex and it’s one of our favorites as the holder keeps the bits in place securely while still making it easy to remove them. That’s in stark contrast to the bit holders you typically see on cheaper tool kits which have tight friction fits that require additional tools to push a bit out of the holder. Interestingly, Feedback Sports also includes three extended bits that are 50 mm in length for the 4 mm, 5 mm hex bits and T25 Torx bits. Given the small size of the torque wrench, the extended bits are perfect for reaching into hidden seatpost clamp bolts or hard to reach areas.
USABILITY
As a cyclist you can never have enough bikes or tools, particularly a torque wrench which is critical for sensitive bike components. The compact size of the fold up case makes it easy to travel and store the Range torque wrench and even potentially bring it on a commute which is something you can’t do with traditional plastic cases found on the Pro Bike Tool or Topeak Torq Stick Pro. The fabric hoops inside the bag keep everything organized and make it easy to access all the items. We found it easy to swap bits thanks to the magnetic bit holder and simple plastic bit holder.
The click feedback when you hit the torque setting is also quite strong with the Range which means there is little risk in over torquing bolts. That’s particularly helpful as the Range is a dual direction torque wrench which means you can use it to loosen bolts without risking damaging the torque wrench. Our main issue with the torque wrench is the compact torque display which makes finding torque settings such as 6.2 Nm or 5.5 Nm more of a guessing game. It’s also not an intuitive display as the indicator blends in with the surrounding metal components which means you have to look carefully to see the current torque setting.
THE VERDICT
Overall, we found the Feedback Sports Range Click Torque Wrench to be a premium and compact torque wrench. The combination of the fabric fold up case and high quality anodized finish makes it a tool that looks and feels high-end. Feedback Sports has also included 13 bits which includes 3 extended bits that are helpful for reaching recessed bolts like those found on hidden seatpost clamps. We also found the click mechanism that indicates when you’ve reached the torque setting to be strong in both the clockwise and counter clockwise direction. Aside from the premium price, the only other negative with this torque wrench is the confusing indicator which makes fractional torque settings difficult to set with any precision. That said, the Feedback Sports Range is a sleek and compact torque wrench that’s easy to store or travel with.
