FIT & FINISH
Visually, the Fanttik S2 Pro Max has a compact cylindrical form factor with an interesting storage case. If you were not familiar with the brand, you would assume this is a metal water bottle as it has a metal case with a rubber cover on it. There is a large yellow Fanttik logo and the product name printed on one side along with a yellow groove on the other side to help with grip. Once you pop the rubber cover off you’ll reveal the inner case and the screw driver which is locked into place with a spring. It’s an odd design, shared with the Fanttik S1 Pro, that isn’t intuitive until you realize you need to push down on the exterior to have both pieces pop out.

Once you’ve removed them you’ll find the screw driver and a plastic outer case which holds the 16 bits. The screw driver itself is about 6.5 inches long with a chuck protruding out the end to hold the bits or the optional L adapter. With this S2 Pro version, the motor has 7 gears to accommodate 0.5 / 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 6 Nm torque modes. It has a nice rubber texture to it, but it’s quite a bit thicker than the Fanttik E1 series of screw drivers which is meant for more precision electronic use. There is also a USB-C charging port on the base with a LED ring around it that will reflect the charging status. Fanttik also includes an L adapter which is a 90 degree attachment that lets you use the S2 Pro Max in tight spaces. The adapter does not fit in the case though, so you’ll need to store that separately.
The outer case has a rounded square design with four bits held on each side. While the bits are not color coded, the type is engraved into them with graphics below it to show the bit style. Each bit holder is magnetic to help hold it in place, with a window cutout around it that makes it easy to remove the bits. All the bits also have long lengths to help reach into recessed bolt holes, as the screw driver itself is fairly large. There are Hex, Torq, square, flat head and Phillip head bits that should cover most typical smaller tasks. Inside the case there is a circular cutout that holds the screwdriver chank in place. While the design is space efficient, finding the right bit requires rotating the entire case around instead of having them placed in a more logical row layout.

USER INTERFACE
The user interface on the NEX S2 Pro Max is straight forward as the tool is always in a stand by mode. Rotating the top of the screwdriver adjusts the current torque setting between 0.5 – 6 Nm. The indicator gauge lights up as you rotate the top to reflect the current torque value with an attractive color gradient. You can also tighten or loosen bolts by pressing the marked plus or minus button above the gauge. Again, with no need for an explicit power button you just have to start using it, or adjust the torque value to bring it to life. While you are using the screw driver an LED ring next to the chuck automatically turns on to help illuminate the bolt. Note, this same LED ring also turns red once the battery life is under 20 percent. We would have liked to see a dedicated power indicator or way to check it to improve usability so you don’t run into low battery mid-use.
ON THE BIKE
While we’ve always been fans of ratchet tools like the Topeak Torq Stick Pro for their speed compared to standard Hex wrenches, the NEX S2 Pro is even more efficient. With a single press of the button you can quickly remove or tighten bolts in a quarter of the time. For long bolts like stem bolts or bottle cage attachments, it’s a big time saver. We used the NEX S2 Pro Max to quickly swap out saddles as the low torque settings on the tool are a perfect match for most bike components which are between 5-8 Nm. For the sake of safety, we would use a standard ratchet to initially loosen a bolt and then bring in the NEX S2 Pro Max to finish the job. Once you hit the maximum torque setting, the tool automatically stops and prevents accidental over torqueing. Even for odd tasks like opening diecast cars, the various sized bits and low torque value made it quick and easy to remove or install bolts. The overall size of the NEX S2 Pro can make accessing tighter areas more of a challenge, but the L adapter helps with that.

THE VERDICT
Overall, we found the Fanttik NEX S2 Pro Max to be a well designed and convenient gadget for working on bikes or around the house. Fanttik has upgraded their standard S2 electric screw driver with a capsule style case and improved motor to create this S2 Pro Max version. With 16 bits and an L adapter, the S2 Pro Max makes quick work of low-torque screws like those found on bicycle components or even on small computers or diecast models. We were impressed with the intuitive user interface to set the torque setting and operate the screw driver. As far as negatives, the capsule case is confusing to open with its spring design and we would have liked to see the L adapter stored inside the case. That said, the Fanttik S2 Pro Max is a fun and useful electric screwdriver that makes quick work of low torque tasks.
