The Lumos Firefly Mini takes Lumos’s popular smart Firefly lights and repackages them into a smaller size and more affordable price point. The Firefly Mini retains a similar magnetic mounting design and Lumos App customization option as the Firefly but has a smaller form factor that makes it easier to mount anywhere. Retail price ranges from $29.95 for an individual Firefly Mini all the way to $139.95 for a four light set. In this review, we have the two light set which retails for $69.95 and includes an accessory pack per light. Each of the Firefly Mini lights have a COB LED design that can be configured as a white front light, red taillight or an orange turn signal. Lumos has incorporated some slick features like brake detection, smart mode and shutdown synchronization to elevate the Firefly Mini lights from standard bike lights.
The Lumos Firefly Mini offers a combination of smart features such as synchronization with adjustable modes for use as front, rear or turn signals.

UNBOXING
The Lumos Firefly two pack light comes in a compact cardboard box with a simple sticker with branding attached to it. Inside the box you’ll find:
- 2x Firefly Mini lights
- 2x accessory packs (slim adapter + universal adapter + 3x silicone pads + two bolts + zip ties + Versa clip)
- Instruction manual
- Sticker sheet
With the Firefly Mini two pack Lumos includes two lights and the accessory packs for mounting the lights just about anywhere. Note, Lumos sells the remote and other accessories separately except for the four pack which includes a remote.
MOUNTING
With the Firefly Mini bundles, Lumos includes an accessory pack for each light which offers a variety of mounting options. The simplest option is the VersaClip that combines a thick plastic construction with a spring loaded clip. This is a non-magnetic design that uses tabs on the sides to firmly hold the light in place. The VersaClip is a great option for attaching the Firefly Mini lights to backpacks or clothing as the lights can be quickly attached or removed. To mount the lights on a bike, there is a confusing multi-piece design that can accommodate seat posts, seat stays or handlebars. The light first attaches to the slim adapter which contains a magnet in the base and tabs to lock the light in place. Next you attach the universal mount which also has a strong magnet that attracts the magnet inside the slim adapter.

Lumos includes three silicone pad options to place behind the universal mount. There is a highly curved one that’s perfect for seat stays, a slightly curved option for seat posts or handlebars and a flat option for anything in between. As far as attaching the mount to the bike there are two options: silicone O-ring or zip tie. The silicone O-ring are the more flexible option that can be quickly removed while the zip ties are more secure. Finally, Lumos also includes two screws which can go through the holes in the universal base and the flat rubber pad that may work on some bike racks. For an additional $29.95, Lumos also sells a rear turn signal mount that clamps onto saddle rails with two extended arms for a clever way of using the lights as turn signals.
FIT & FINISH
Visually, the Lumos Firefly Mini are compact and attractive gem-like lights. The Firefly Mini has a clear lens and white finish but can be used as front lights, turn signals or rear lights by assigning them a position in the Lumos app. Where the larger Firefly can be a bit bulky and difficult to mount in smaller locations, the Firefly Mini is only 1.7 inches / 44mm tall and 0.9 inches / 22.6 mm wide. That means the Firefly Mini can be placed just about anywhere for cycling, running or even pets. The biggest difference between the Firefly Mini and the standard Firefly lights is that the Mini lacks focused LEDs which makes the lights less visible from further distances. The lights themselves are small rectangles with a shiny transparent lens and plastic base. Branding is limited to Lumos on the backside with a USB-C charging port underneath a rubber cover.
Lumos offers the lights individually or in bundles to accommodate different setups but note that everything does cost extra. You’ll also have to pay another $9.95 for the Firefly Mini Port if you want to use the lights on a Lumos Ultra Fly or Ultra Fly Pro helmet. Also you’ll need to buy the optional remote to use the brake sensing function and really take advantage of the turn signals. The Firefly Mini uses a COB LED design with a visible dense array of LEDS behind a transparent lens. Every Firefly light can be either white, red or orange depending on what mode they are set to on the Lumos App. Instead of using a color changing RGB design, Lumos uses a grid of separate white, orange and red LEDs. Lumos does not publish the lumen output of the Firefly Mini but has stated the larger Firefly lights achieve a maximum of 84 lumen so these are likely closer to 30 lumen. They are bright but are designed to be “be-seen” lights and are not designed to light up the road.

As far as the user interface, there is a single power button on each Firefly Mini light. Holding the power button turns the light on or off, while a single press cycles through modes when the light is on. There is no battery status indicator built-in to the lights or even a low battery indicator. To access all the features of the light you’ll need to use the Lumos app to set up a light grid with the Firefly lights and assign them roles to change the color. One of the coolest features of the Firefly is the synchronized shutdown feature which turns off all the lights when you power one off. You still have to turn each one on individually, but the combined shutdown is a time saving feature.
LUMOS APP
The Lumos app is necessary to access the full array of features of the Firefly Mini lights. It’s a slick app that is shared with the Lumos helmets and has a dark theme that lets you quickly pair the lights using Bluetooth. The app has a simple four tab design with: devices, sync, ride and discover. The devices tab lets you connect to the Firefly Mini lights and other Lumos products. Once they are connected, the device page lists the battery and connection status. On the ride page you have a simple left and right button which lets you trigger the turn signals. It’s a convenient feature if you don’t have the remote. The discover page is more of an advertisement for Lumos products and news from Lumos.

The most relevant page is the sync page which displays a 3×3 grid that lets you set each Firefly Mini to either a front, rear or turn signal or a combination. It’s a simple drag and drop interface that lets you re-arrange the lights quickly and setup them up to match your bikes setup. Once the light is part of a grid the light color changes to match the role and you can enable the synchronization features. You can even add a Lumos helmet and remote to the grid to fully take advantage of the turn signal functionality. The app also has some basic customization features that lets you adjust the brightness for the three available modes or re-arrange them as desired.
LIGHT OUTPUT
Lumos pre-programs the Firefly lights with three basic modes: a constant high, slow flash and eco flash. The lumen output is not specified for any of the modes but runtimes range from 9 to 14 hours with the constant mode having the lowest runtime. All the modes illuminate the COB LED in unison at a constant level or different flash patterns. Again, the big difference with the Firefly Mini and the original Firefly lights is that there is no additional focused LED. That means even in the flash modes, the Firefly Mini isn’t visible from longer distance and is more of a be-seen light for urban riding. However, the intuitive app makes it easy to swap from a white headlight, red taillight to dedicated turn signal or a turn signal combination with a quick drag and drop.
In our opinion, the Firefly Mini only make sense as a pair or complete four light set where you can really take advantage of the turn signal functions. Spaced apart, the bright orange flashing indicators help riders or cars behind you know that you are turning for additional safety. The multi-piece mounting also lets you find creative places to mount the lights whether it is clipped to clothing or strapped to a bike. However, for those looking for an individual light and no Lumos helmet to attach it to, we’d recommend brighter lights like the Magicshine Seemee 50 or the Knog Traffic which have brighter output.
THE VERDICT
Overall, we found the Lumos Firefly Mini to be compact and clever be-seen style lights. Lumos has taken their smart Firefly lights and made them more compact and affordable with the Firefly Mini lights. While the lights lack focused LEDs, the smaller size makes them more versatile and affordable. We found the syncing features to be easy to use and setup with the Lumos App offering an excellent user interface to create a light grid. The Firefly Mini lights can easily be swapped between white, red or even orange taillight modes by assigning them different roles. As far as negatives, the lights are still fairly pricey and make the most sense as a minimum two light set or combined with a Lumos helmet to really take advantage of the turn signals functions. That said, the Lumos Firefly Mini are fun be-seen style lights that pack some impressive smart features into a diminutive size.
