UNBOXING

The Muc-Off AirMach Pro inflator comes in a compact cardboard box with eye catching graphics printed directly onto it. Once you open the box you’ll find:

  • AirMach Pro pump
  • Schrader extension hose w/ Presta adapter
  • Extra gasket + rubber piece for nozzle tip
  • Needle valve and ball adapter
  • USB-C charging cable
  • Waterproof storage bag
  • User manual

It’s nice to see Muc-Off include spare parts with the pump as the small rubber pieces can be damaged or lost easily if you frequently have to swap between Presta and Schrader valves.

FIT & FINISH

Visually, the AirMach Pro has the classic rectangular design with a metal body and exposed screws. The nozzle faces forward with the LED display below it which is an odd choice. Unless you inflate upside down or use the hose at an angle, you won’t see the screen while inflating. The power button has been placed on the side along with the USB-C port on the other side. Muc-Off includes a nice textured rubber cover for the pump which makes it easier to grip and should provide insulation as the metal body heats up with use. In terms of size, the pump is 64.5 x 63 x 28mm or 2.5 x 2.5 x 1.1 inches which makes it quite portable. The nozzle has a bright knurled pink anodized finish with a removable cap that threads on to the body.

The Pro version has a simple backlit LED screen with two small buttons for adjusting the air pressure.

Out of the box, the pump is set up for Presta valves using the nozzle attached to the body. You can unthread the cap on the knurled nozzle and swap the orientation of the rubber piece to use the pump with Schrader valves. There is also an included extension hose which Muc-Off, like most pump manufacturers, recommend using for TPU style valves that may melt due to heat. The nozzle and extension hose have a push-on style design with gaskets to make the seal airtight. To use the hose with Presta, you need to screw on the Presta adapter onto the body of the pump. There is also a ball inflation and toy nozzle attachments included that can be used to inflate basketballs or mattresses.

The AirMach Pro is slightly shorter than other pumps but a bit wider with the long knurled nozzle.

USER INTERFACE

The main upgrade of the Pro version of the AirMach pump compared to the standard version is the inclusion of a LED screen which is a feature you need with portable pumps. It’s a relatively small but bright LED screen with the pressure on top and the battery status and units below it. There is a plus and minus button below it which you can press or hold to change in the inflation pressure. Holding both buttons will toggle between the PSI and BAR unit display to accommodate different user preferences. While the plus and minus buttons are relatively small, we do like the larger side mounted power button which is intuitive to use.

ON THE BIKE

There are quite a few electric inflators on the market already, so the Muc-Off AirMach Pro has touch competition. At first glance the size and specs are competitive with other pumps. It’s small enough to fit in a jersey pocket while still having a relatively large 450mAh battery for good runtime. The thread-on nozzle heads are easy to attach to valves, and included bag is a nice way to prevent sweat or other items scratching the pump. As far as the sound, it’s loud just like all electric pumps with a lower tone that is more similar to the Magicshine Airro. The larger battery means the runtimes and inflation speed are pretty impressive, for our 700×28 tire we were able to inflate it 6.6 times fro empty to 65 psi before running out of battery with speeds from 41-50 seconds. That’s one of the best electric pumps we’ve tested in terms of inflation speed and battery life. That means you should have plenty of power to inflate multiple tubes without having battery anxiety on a ride.

The most obvious issue of the pump is the screen placement, we’ve reviewed what feels like dozens of inflators and the AirMach is the first one we’ve seen with the screen below the nozzle. There is a good reason no one does that, it’s very difficult to view the screen while pumping. Muc-Off should have used a side or rear mounted screen which is easy to view while inflating in different positions. The button size is also small and feels more like cheaper pumps such as the COOPO X1 or CYCPLUS AS2 variations. For the premium price of the pump, we would have liked to see custom graphics on startup that you find on the Trek Air Rush, PDW Essentials, and Topeak E-Booster Mini for that extra bit of polish. We’re also not a big fan of the convertible nozzle head design, as with other pumps, it’s very easy to lose the parts and you’ll need to reference the manual to remember the orientation for different valves.

One of the big flaws of the pump is the LED screen placement below the nozzle which is difficult to see while you are inflating.

THE VERDICT

Overall, we found the Muc-Off AirMach Mini Pro tire inflator to be fast and efficient tire inflator. Muc-Off has taken their standard AirMach and added a LED screen to make the pump more versatile and user friendly. Small touches like the knurled nozzle head with anodized finish and lightning bolt pattern rubber cover give the pump a premium appearance. We were impressed with the inflation speed and battery life which inflated our 700×28 tire from empty to 65 PSI a total of 6.6 times making it one of the best we’ve reviewed. The big downside of this pump is the premium price compared to other pumps and the impractical LED screen location below the nozzle that’s difficult to see while you are inflating. That said, the Muc-Off AirMach Pro offers long runtimes and fast tire inflation in a small package.
