UNBOXING
The RAVEMEN Q1 bell comes in a small white cardboard box with basic branding and specs printed onto it. Inside the box you’ll find:
- Q1 bell
- Medium and thick rubber spacers
- Allen key
- Instruction manual
MOUNTING
The RAVEMEN Q1 has a simple hinged C-clamp design with a single bolt for mounting onto handlebars. Removing the main bolt allows the entire bell to hinge open up and slide over round handlebars from 22.2 – 31.8 mm in diameter. That means you can use this bell on everything from commuter bikes to road bikes by just swapping out the provided rubber shims. There is one bolt that compresses the bell together and can be loosened to adjust the orientation of the bell. One important thing to note is that the bell will only work if the exterior metal piece can vibrate. That means the bell should be placed where there are no brake or shifter cables rubbing against it.
FIT & FINISH
Visually, the RAVEMEN Q1 has a compact hinged design that does not look like a traditional bell. Instead of having a large mushroom like brass disc, the Q1 has a compact wrap-around design with cutouts on the sides to create a loud ding. The Q1 has a black exterior and is constructed from an aluminum alloy and is claimed to be usable for 1000+ times. It’s an attractive design that is designed to blend into handlebars with only a few mm thickness. Branding on the bell is limited to a white RAVEMEN logo on the front for a sleek appearance. The bell trigger is a simple spring mounted plastic button which just has to be pulled or pushed forward.
RIDING IMPRESSIONS
Our local multi-use trails are typically packed with tourists too distracted by the local scenery to pay attention to cyclists, so we were happy to see how well the RAVEMEN Q1 would do. The compact black size was a perfect match for our Priority Ace of Spade’s black handlebar and blended in nicely. The cable routing on the single speed bike was offset from the handlebar which made installation easy without having to worry about cables rubbing against the bell. Despite the small size, the bell has a nice strong ding sound that’s loud but not aggressive like electronic horns such as the Loud Bicycle Horn or chirpy like the Hornit. The spring trigger has a nice large surface area which is easy to activate without having to take your eyes off the road as well.
THE VERDICT
Overall, we found the RAVEMEN Q1 to be a compact and loud bike bell. RAVEMEN has incorporated a compact space-saving design with the Q1 that allows the bell to blend into handlebars. We found the metal construction to feel premium with a large and easy to use trigger to operate the bell. The small bell has a nice loud ding that ensures people know you are approaching. It’s also an easy bell to install with a hinged one bolt design. The only negative we found is that the wrap-around bell design may not work on bikes with cables that are route close to handlebars and rub against the surface. That said, the RAVEMEN Q1 offers a loud bell at a very affordable price point.
