Developed for warm weather riding the jersey uses lightweight sustainable fabrics for optimal performance. The jersey has a minimalist design that is constructed with 85% recycled fabric and a low profile collar. It’s also a naturally more aero jersey as there is no front zipper to disturb airflow. Consistent with Velocio’s sustainable approach, each of the items arrived in biodegradable bags enclosed in a compostable mailer with minimal tags and no extra packing material.
FIT AND FINISH
The Velocio Zipperless jersey combines many of the design and details that have made Velocio so popular. That means it has the same premium construction and form fitting design as their Signature jerseys but has a more sustainable and simple design. Velocio offers the jersey in both men’s and women’s variations with three solid color schemes for each. The men’s variation is currently available in navy, olive and sky colors while the women’s is black cherry, sky and olive. We found the olive and cherry variations to look even better in person than the online photos. With the olive color, there are off-white accents on the sleeves and in the neck that mimic a baselayer peaking out. It’s a subtle but clever addition that gives the jersey a more complete look.
Velocio lists the composition of the jersey as 90% recycled polyester and 10% elastane which allows the jersey to be lightweight and well suited for warm weather riding. The fabric has a soft feel and elastic feel that allows it to stretch and contour around your body for a comfortable but aggressive fit. There is even an extended rear drop tail that provides additional coverage when you’re in an aggressive aero position We also appreciated the large three open rear pockets as they have reinforcements to prevent them from sagging. The fourth zippered pocket is helpful for smaller items such as credit cards or keys.
ON THE ROAD
Once you start riding with the Velocio Signature ZIpperless jersey it’s easy to forget you’re wearing it. We’d describe it as a “club fit” as it’s close fitting but has enough stretch to allow for baselayers to be worn underneath it. We tried both the men’s medium and women’s small and found them both to be consistent with other brands and other Velocio products we’ve reviewed. Even with the lack of a zipper, the jersey performs well in warm weather conditions thanks to the light weight and breathable fabric. Aside from occasionally reaching for the non-existent zipper out of habit, the jersey is visually attractive and comfortable to wear on short or long rides. The olive and cherry colors look even better in person and match a variety of cycling gear or bike setups (i.e. the cherry color is a great match for the Bell XR Spherical in pink).
THE VERDICT
Overall, we found the Velocio Signature Zipperless jersey to be comfortable and well suited for warm weather riding. Although we were a bit apprehensive about a cycling jersey without a front zipper, once you’re on the road you easily forget about it. With the lack of a zipper the jersey has a simple and form-fitting design with a variety of attractive solid color scheme options. As with all of Velocio clothing, the jersey has minimal branding and smart details such as reflective logos and tabs to keep you visible in low light conditions. The jersey even has four large pockets, with one of those pockets being a smaller zippered pocket for valuables. Although the jersey is slightly harder to put on and take of with the lack of a zipper it’s well made and ventilated even for warm weather rides. If you’re looking for a warm weather jersey with sleek styling and a robust zipperless design the Velocio Signature Zipperless jersey is one to consider.
