The new GOREWEAR Concurve Windbreaker is a lighter weight running windbreaker that is an alternative to GOREWEAR’s Concurve Gore-Tex jacket. Where the full jacket is fully waterproof, the new Concurve Windbreaker is optimized for three-season protection. Retail price on the Concurve Windbreaker is $100 and is available in both men’s and women’s variations with eleven colors to choose from. GOREWEAR claims these are their most comfortable windbreakers thanks to the low air permeable, double-weave material that doesn’t cling like traditional windbreakers. The Concurve Windbreaker has a PFAS-free DWR finish to protect against light rain and reflective details for additional safety.

The GORE R5 GTX Insulated running jacket combines lightweight insulation and windproof materials with an attractive and highly visible semi-transparent nylon exterior.

FIT AND FINISH

GOREWEAR markets the Concurve Windbreaker as one of the most comfortable windbreakers ever which is a bold claim. The main reason for this is the unique 3D woven fabric structure which is meant to eliminate the clinging that other windbreakers have as you sweat. As a result, the Concurve has a very soft and lightweight feel instead of feeling like a plastic layer. GOREWEAR offers the jacket in an impressive eleven different colors with both men’s and women’s versions. The colors range from black and white to yellow, red green and even a purple women’s specific color. For this review, we have the men’s white version which has a solid white color scheme and color matched white zippers. It’s a bright white color that’s great for visibility with black accents on the zippers and reflective GOREWEAR logo on the chest and rear.

GOREWEAR Concurve Running Windbreaker Lighweight Review - Rear Panel
The windbreaker has a lightweight construction with thin material that keeps the wind out.

The front of the windbreaker has a full length front zipper along with two zippered front storage pockets. They are placed in a similar location to hoodies which makes them comfortable to place your hands in or to store gear. The collar has a unique ergonomic shape to it with a tall profile to help protect your neck from cold weather with an additional lining material for comfort. On the rear of the windbreaker there are only minimal panels and a slight drop tail as you would find on cycling gear. The hem also has a draw cord which helps adjust the fit and provide an elastic fit. There is a similar elastic insert on the cuffs to keep wind out and ensure the cuffs wrap around gloves.

RUNNING IMPRESSIONS

As with other GOREWEAR gear, we chose the medium size for our 165 lb 6’1” tester. The windbreaker fit well and lived up to its “optimized fit using kinetic design” claim as it does not restrict motion. Note, the fit is a bit on the larger side though which ensures the windbreaker doesn’t cling and lets you wear additional layers underneath it. Also, the wind breaker always has a wrinkled appearance, something you can even see on GOREWEAR’s product photos, with drag lines along the front zipper and a bit of folding on the sleeves. Aside from that, the material of the windbreaker is quite impressive as it feels lightweight and soft while still completely blocking out the wind. On colder days we’d recommend layering up as the windbreaker has no insulation, like the R5 GTX running jacket, but the windbreaker helps you retain your warmth once you start moving.

GOREWEAR has added two zippered pockets on the front of the windbreaker which offer convenient storage.

THE VERDICT

Overall, we found the GOREWEAR Concurve Windbreaker to be a lightweight and comfortable windbreaker. Unlike most windbreakers which have a plastic-like feel and cling to your body, GOREWEAR’s advanced double-weave material feels soft and repels moisture. The lightweight design blocks out the wind and works well on cooler or windy days to ensure you stay comfortable while running. We also appreciated the details like the two zipper front pockets for storage and the color matching. The only negative we found was that the windbreaker fit is slightly larger than we expected. That said, the GORWEAR Concurve Windbreaker is a lightweight and extremely comfortable windbreaker that lets you enjoy your run regardless of the conditions.
