Whether you’re working from a home office or running errands around town, the casual style and comfort of a hoodie is hard to beat. That’s why it’s not surprising so many companies offer their own interpretation of the hoodie with different designs and materials. In this review we’ll be specifically looking at the women’s KÜHL Brava Hoody which is not your run-of-the-mill hoodie. With a retail price of $119, the Brava Hoody is a functional hoodie that is constructed of soft 100% organic cotton. KÜHL currently offers the hoodie in three colors: cinnamon, charcoal and black. The bright metallic blue version shown in this review is a vibrant print variation that is no longer offered. Some notable features of the Brava Hoody are the ribbed side panels, cuffs and collar which add unique character to the hoodie.

FIT & FINISH
KÜHL markets their clothing as different by design and different by construction. This motto holds true for the Brava Hoody which takes a classic hoodie design and adds high quality materials and functional details to elevate it. In this review we have the metallic blue Brava hoody which has an attractive mustard yellow print on a teal-ish blue back reminiscent of fall colors. Unfortunately, the color scheme shown here is no longer offered by KÜHL, although some distributors still have it. It’s unfortunate as the graphic print helps the hoody stand out compared to the current solid color schemes.
The KÜHL Brava Hoody is constructed of a mid-weight (340GSM) 100% organic cotton and has a high collar (not typical in jackets with hoods) and a full zip running down the front. It’s very well made with interesting design details like: slanted front pockets with zippered closure set against angular ribbed knit panels, contoured hood, thumb holes on the sleeve cuff and rib knit panels in unusual places. These details help improve the fit of the hoody as well as make it more comfortable to wear. It’s a hoody that’s comfortable to wear on a trail or around the office without looking out of place.
COMFORT
Our 5’5” 118lb tester wore the small sized KÜHL Brava Hoody and found the size to be a tad large. We’d describe it as a relaxed fit with enough room to layer additional baselayers underneath it comfortably. As far as warmth, we found the mid-weight cotton construction of the hoody lacks the insulation found in warmer hoodies. We found that a warm baselayer was needed to comfortably wear the hoodie on colder days. It would’ve been nice if the inside was brushed or lined with a warmer fabric. Aside from insulation issues, the jacket is very comfortable and the raglan sleeves provide a great range of motion and fit for broad shouldered people.
THE VERDICT
Overall, the KÜHL Brava hoody is unique looking and a very well made hoody. With its full cotton construction and premium details the Brava hoody has a comfortable and functional design. We found that it didn’t stretch out in the washer or dryer and felt durable enough to handle extended use. The relaxed fit of the hoody leaves enough space to layer up on colder days or to wear it on its own. As far as negatives, we found that the hoody isn’t as warm as we expected and requires additional layers on colder days and would like to see KÜHL offer more graphic options. That said, if you’re looking for a well made midweight hoodie jacket with interesting design details then give the KÜHL Brava Hoody a try.
