FIT & FINISH
With this complete cleaning kit, Muc-Off includes all their most popular products along with a convenient tool box to store it in. The box itself is a medium sized plastic tool box with two front latches and an articulating handle. Consistent with Muc-Off’s branding, the box is black while the touch points are pink to a splash of color. The top of the box has some small bins which are convenient for little bolts or small items. Inside the tool box you have an assortment of Muc-Off’s most popular items for cleaning and protection. There are standard items like a microfiber cloth for drying and polishing as well as their wet weather lubricant to apply on the drivetrain after a cleaning. Some more details of the other components are described below.

Nano Tech Bike Cleaner
The Nano Tech Bike Cleaner is one of Muc-Off’s original products that is an all purpose cleaner. It’s popular because of its cleaning power to remove grime and dirt without harming the bike’s finish or even sensitive parts like brake rotors. The cleaner is also biodegradable so there are no harsh or toxic chemicals to worry about. Muc-Off includes the largest size, a 33.81 fl oz bottle with a built-in sprayer so you can be generous when you are using it. It’s also safe to use on the entire bike so you can spray it on the entire bike for a deep clean.
Bio Drivetrain Cleaner
The Muc-Off Bio Drivetrain Cleaner is specifically designed for cleaning drivetrain and removing tough grease with less work. This kit includes the 8.4 fl oz version with its own trigger so you can spray it in targeting sections. As with the other products, this is also biodegradable and safe on all materials. Note, Muc-Off does not sell this smaller version outside of the kits but offers larger sizes and refillable options separately.
Bike Protect
To help keep the bike clean, the Muc-Off Bike Protect is a spray-on finishing coat that leaves a shiny non-sticky protective layer on the bike and drive train. Muc-Off even recommends spraying it on the chain before applying lube as it helps remove any moisture left over from cleaning. Note, you want to avoid getting the spray on tire treads or braking surfaces so you’ll want to cover those components before spraying. After applying it you can wipe off any excess away with a microfiber to complete the cleaning process. The Bike Protect leaves a nice gloss on bike components and helps them stay cleaner for longer.
Cleaning Brushes
One of the highlights of the kit is a four brush cleaning set that helps to agitate dirt and get into hard to reach areas on the drivetrain for a deep clean. The largest brush is their soft washing brush which has long soft bristles for scrubbing the frame or wheel rims. It also has a nice ergonomic handle which makes it easier to grip and manipulate into all the corners of a frame. There is also a small detailing brush with more rigid bristles that is better suited for cleaning handle bar tape or smaller areas.
For the drivetrain, there are two additional brushes: two prong brush and the claw brush. The two prong brush is similar to a toilet brush but has two heads that are slightly angled. That allows you to slide the brush over the chain, spokes or other items to clean both sides. The claw brush is a combination brush that has three different bristle sections for cleaning chains, sprockets or cassettes. An additional claw end with
ON THE BIKE
The review for this cleaning kit was perfectly timed with the Muc-Off Foam Sprayer which gave us an opportunity to give our Trek Madone a nice deep clean. Using the foam sprayer with the Nano Tech Bike Cleaner we had a thick and rich foam over the entire bike that was easy to agitate with the soft washing brush. The ergonomic design of the brush combined with the soft bristles makes quick work of larger surfaces like the frame and rims. To help get dirt and grease out of our handlebar tape, we used the small detailing brush which has firm bristles to life up dirt.

We were most impressed with the drivetrain cleaner which seemed to make grease magically disappear off cassettes and the chain. With a little help from the chain brush to get in between the gears we were able to turn our black cassette back to new. The Muc-Off Bio Drivetrain Cleaner reminded us of the more pricey Finish Line Speed Degreaser which used an aerosol can to spray away grease. This foam sprayer design is more environmentally friendly and economical while still behind highly effective.

While we generally liked the brushes, the Claw Brush in particular was a little disappointing. The three separate bristle sections work well as a general chain cleaner but the claw part felt flimsy. That made it hard to hold the brush steady to clean the derailleur jockey wheels as it would bend. We typically use wood tooth pick for this type of task, it’s cheap and won’t damage the components, and prefer that approach instead of the claw end of the Claw Brush. Once the bike is clean, we put the Bike Protect spray on which leaves a nice glossy coat on the drivetrain and frame. It’s a nice finishing touch that leaves the bike and even components like the crank looking brand new. Even after multiple rides, the glossy finish remains on the bike helping the bike stay cleaner for longer.
THE VERDICT
Overall, we found the Muc-Off Ultimate Bike Care Kit to be a great complete package to clean, degrease and protect a bike. While the large kit is a big initial investment, Muc-Off has included all of their most popular items in larger sizes which means you’ll have enough to wash several bikes over a season. We liked the included toolbox which helps keep everything organized and even has storage in the lid for smaller parts. The best parts of the kit are Muc-Off’s signature Nano Tech cleaner and the Bio Drivetrain Cleaner which remove dirt, grease and grime from the bike with minimal elbow grease. The only part of the kit we weren’t as impressed with is the Claw Brush which was a bit flimsy at the claw end for cleaning derailleur pulleys. That said, if you’re looking for a complete bike cleaning kit the Muc-Off Ultimate Bike Care Kit is one we’d recommend.
