PEARL iZUMi’s BikeStyle collection offers casual apparel that can be worn in the office and comfortably on the bike. The apparel combines technical fabric with bike friendly features to keep you visible and comfortable while riding. We’ll specifically be looking at two items, the Canyon Tech Snap Short Sleeve and the Rove Pants which pair well together for commuting or casual wear. The Canyon Tech Snap Short Sleeve retails for an affordable $85 price and has a relaxed fit with full-length button snap closure. High performance recycled transfer fabric along with PEARL iZUMi’s GoFresh anti-odor treatment to allow the shirt to be used for longer bike commutes. We also have the $120 Rove Pants which have a straight fit and reflective details for nighttime visibility. The pants have an organic cotton blend and water resistant fabric.

CANYON TECH SHORT SLEEVE
The PEARL iZUMi Canyon Tech Snap Short Sleeve is a button-up short sleeve that combines a casual design with bike-specific features. This means you can wear the shirt riding or in the office while still looking and being comfortable. PEARL iZUMi currently offers the short sleeve in three color options: Dark Ink Coslope, Gravel Terra and a limited edition Gulf Teal Trail. We have the Gravel Terra which is an interesting graphic print with a gravel color scheme that’s perfect for mountain biking or even around town. This is a relaxed fit with slight contouring and an elongated rear specifically designed for cycling in mind. It’s constructed with 73% recycled polyester, 18% polyester and 9% elastane for additional stretch.
PEARL iZUMi has also incorporated their GoFresh treatment to ensure you look and smell good when you arrive at your destination. The shirt features a full length snap closure design which looks casual and is easy to open or take off. There are also clever details such as shoulder seams are specifically positioned for additional comfort when wearing hydration packs. There is also a drop tail rear to provide additional coverage when you’re riding a bike in more aggressive positions. The fabric is quite lightweight and breathable which allows the shirt to be worn in warmer temperatures comfortably without getting sweaty on longer rides.
ROVE PANTS
The PEARL iZUMi Rove pants are specifically designed to be comfortable on and off the bike by customizing the fit and features. PEARL iZUMi currently offers the Rove pants in two colors: Toffee and the Smoke Grey we have here. These are available in sizes from 28 to 38 and have a straight fit design. The pants are constructed from a blend of 68% organic cotton, 29% nylon and 3% elastane for additional stretch. This makes the pants lightweight and breathable which makes them comfortable to wear on the bike, traveling or around the office. The pants even include an adjustable curved waistband that optimizes the fit on the bike and lets you dial in the fit without the need for an additional belt.
One of the main bike-friendly features is the use of reflective elements to keep you visible on the bike. These include reflective hit points on the rear pockets as well as clever reflective cuffs. This is a clever detail that is only visible when you roll up the cuffs and keeps you visible when riding in low visibility conditions. The great thing about the Rove pants is that they retail a casual look which means they don’t look out of place on or off the bike. While we would have liked to see some more zippered pockets like those found on the Velocio Recon Stealth pants, all the pockets on the Rove pants are deep and well positioned.
ON THE ROAD
We wore the PEARL iZUMi BikeStyle apparel with both commuting on our Troxus Lynx and Xtracycle RFA cargo bike as well as casual wear for around town. Both items have a slim fit that’s comfortable and lightweight. We were impressed with the breathability and elastic fabrics which make both items perfect for doing long commutes while still looking and smelling good. PEARL iZUMi’s clever reflective details and non-restrictive fit make them equally comfortable while pedaling or driving which means you can get quite a bit of use out of them. The color schemes and finish on both items also means the BikeStyle apparel look great around the office or for running errands around town. We were particularly impressed with the Rove pants as they can pair with nearly anything and have a slight sheen to them which lets you also use them to dress up.
THE VERDICT
Overall, we found the PEARL iZUMi BikeStyle Canyon Tech Snap Short Sleeve and Rove pants to be comfortable and highly versatile. Whether you use them for cycling or as casual wear for around town both items are light and highly breathable. PEARL iZUMi has done an excellent job using high-tech and elastic fabrics to allow the BikeStyle apparel to not restrict your motion while cycling and still maintain a slim and attractive fit off the bike. In fact, unless someone recognizes the reflective details the BikeStyle pieces can easily be mistaken for standard clothing. Both the shirt and pants are also quite affordable which means you are not paying the traditional cycling surcharge. There isn’t much we’d do to improve the apparel except for adding a few zippered pockets for more secure storage. That said, if you’re looking for lightweight and comfortable casual wear to ride with, the PEARL iZUMi BikeStyle apparel is a great option.
