Velocio’s LUXE apparel lineup has been one of Velocio’s best selling kits and is marketed as a long-distance kit. The apparel pieces are all optimized for comfort and long hours on the saddle with details like proprietary chamois and a distinctive soft suede-like finish. For this review, we have the latest version of the LUXE bib shorts and the Merino LUXE Colorblock Jersey with small updates for 2025 based on user feedback. Specifically, we have the $299 LUXE Bib shorts which have an endurance style chamois and high compression lycra. The bib shorts have a minimalist three-panel design to eliminate pressure points. We’ve paired the bib shorts with the Merino LUXE Colorblock Jersey that features natural Merino wool for breathability and thermo regulation. The jersey has a retro style color block design with unique colors that creates an attractive and comfortable cycling kit.

LUXE BIB SHORT
The LUXE bib shorts are marketed under the “go the distance” slogan and are one of Velocio’s best selling bib shorts. Developed for the needs of cyclists doing all-day rides, the bib shorts combine minimal seams with a compressive fit to provide support. Velocio offers bib shorts in four colors currently: deep lichen (light green), black, black olive (charcoal) and sulphur (dark yellow). We have the sulfur color option which is a unique matte dark yellow color that pairs well with nearly any jersey color. It’s a solid color scheme with reflective tabs along the rear seams for additional night time visibility. For 2025, Velocio has taken user feedback to do some subtle improvements such as a 4cm longer inseam length and an updated waistline for more coverage for the men’s variation.

The longer inseam improves the fit of the bib shorts and is something Velocio has applied to their other bib shorts like the Velocio Ultralight. The other improvement is the bib strap design which adds a mesh panel that connects the rear making it easier to put the bib shorts on and off. One of the key differences between the LUXE and other bib shorts Velocio offers is the construction. The bib shorts have a 3 panel design that eliminates all the standard seams and give them a painted-on appearance. This is accomplished through the use of a high compression lycra material and the 57% recycled polyamide and 43% elastane fabric. There is a raw hem at the bottom of the hems which also eliminates fabric bulk and gives the bib shorts a premium appearance. The fabric itself also has a soft suede like finish that we haven’t seen outside of the LUXE lineup.
The most important piece of any bib shorts are the bib straps which Velocio has also improved. For the LUXE, the straps have a Y design with a new mesh connector panel on the rear. Should you mix up your Velocio bib shorts there is also a large LUXE and “Go the distance” printed on the rear straps. The mesh panel is a nice addition that makes it faster and easier to put the bib shorts on and off compared to fully separate bib straps. With the previous bib straps it was easy to get the positions mixed up, so we’re happy to see this connected design. The mesh panel also helps distribute pressure and stabilize the straps while still being breathable. The chamois on the LUXE bib shorts are a proprietary design developed with Cytech which is a parent company to Elastic Interface. That name should be more familiar to people as Elastic Interface chamois are used by nearly all major apparel brands. You have a standard multi-foam construction with a center relief channel along with the traditional zig-zag stitching to attach it to the bib shorts.
LUXE MERINO COLORBLOCK JERSEY
The Velocio Merino LUXE Jersey combines the natural thermal and odor properties of Merino wool with Velocio’s premium jersey design. As with other LUXE items, the LUXE Jerseys are optimized for a supportive fit for long rides and slightly more relaxed. That translates to details like optimized breathability and a tapered color for additional sun protection. The Merino LUXE jerseys are available in two variations: the solid Merino LUXE Jersey or the two-tone Merino LUXE Colorblock Jersey. Velocio offers standard Merino LUXE jersey three colors currently: smoked paprika (dark red), black and sulphur (dark yellow). The Colorblock options are also offered in three options based on the standard jersey colors: black / olive, sulphur / navy and parika / olive. We have the paprika / olive option which has the dark red paprika color on the top half of the jersey and arms along with a dark charcoal olive color on the lower half of the torso.

It’s an attractive design that has a retro appearance with the two-tone color and pairs well with the bib shorts. There is also a full length front zipper that is color matched to the top portion of the jersey which provides a little contrast on the bottom of the jersey. As with all Velocio gear, branding is limited to a Velocio logo on the shoulder and Velocio printed on the back panel. This Merino jersey is also actually mostly merino wool with 71% wool, 18% polyamide, and 11% elastane. The jersey has a performance fit that is slightly more relaxed than the Velocio Concept apparel. There are a few main panels with standard set-in sleeves and additional triangular panels along the shoulders.

Velocio has also added a tapered front collar which is a bit higher on the rear than the front for a better fit while on the bike. There is a full length front zipper with zipper garages on both the top and bottom for additional comfort for long rides. The color blocking is along the center of the front panel but you can see it dips down a bit along the rear panels. As a part of Velocio’s longer-is-better approach, you’ll also notice the sleeves are longer than other jerseys and extend to the elbows. The rear of the jersey has the Merino mesh panels to improve the breathability and protection from the sun. There are four standard pockets with reinforcements to ensure you don’t have sagging pockets on long rides where you need extra food. There is a nice rectangular reflective piece on the center pocket along with a drop tail for additional coverage while in an aero position.
RIDING IMPRESSIONS
We’ve been lucky enough to have ridden with a wide variety of Velocio kit from the summer Ultralight to the cold weather Alpha apparel so we have a lot of experience with the brand. This is our first time putting miles on the LUXE pieces and we were instantly impressed. The LUXE feels luxurious from the moment you unbag them with their soft suede like outer material and unique color pairings. The size medium bib shorts and jersey fit our 6’1” 165lb test rider like a glove with a body contouring performance fit that does not restrict your motion. It’s a similar fit to other Velocio gear and we’d describe it as a slightly relaxed race fit, it doesn’t leave much to the imagination but it’s elastic enough to not be constrictive.
Most of our rides involve mixed conditions from 50-85 degree Fahrenheit that can vary drastically due to the local mountains so we were excited for the Merino wool jersey. The combination of the bib shorts and jersey provide a nice combination of warmth and breathability. On their own, the bib shorts and jersey can easily be worn in hot temperatures while a base layer or jacket like the Velocio One add some warmth on cooler days. The LUXE kit also lives up to the “go the distance” branding as the kit is comfortable and pressure-point free even on all-day rides. The chamois on the bib shorts is also one of the best we’ve worn with well designed padding that lets you focus on the ride instead of comfort.
THE VERDICT
Overall, we found the Velocio LUXE cycling kit to be comfortable with welcome upgrades for 2025. Velocio has added small updates that make the LUXE kit fit better and improve usability. We appreciated the combined Y-style bib straps which make it easier to put the bib shorts on and off as well as improving stability of the straps. The LUXE also has a luxurious feel with a soft suede like out material and compressive fit that eliminates the need for additional seams. For mixed riding conditions it’s also hard to beat the Merino wool jersey which has an attractive two-tone color design and natural breathable material that works well in warm or cold temperatures. Our only complaint with the bib shorts and jersey are the premium price points which means some riders may want to wait for a sale before purchasing them. That said, the Velocio LUXE is a sleek and comfortable cycling kit that looks good and feels good regardless of how far you are riding.
