As a cyclist it can be difficult to pick the right jacket for a ride, if you overdress you’ll be sweating on a ride and if you underdress you’ll be shivering on the descents. Velocio’s solution to this common issue is their new One Jacket that is designed to do it all with a waterproof, windproof and breathable construction. The technology doesn’t come cheap though, as the One Jacket retails for $349 and is offered in men’s and women’s specific versions. Per Velocio’s specs, the jacket is designed to be used in temperatures ranging from 32-50 Fahrenheit. One of the key features of the jacket is the Polartec Power Shield which allows the One Jacket to be fully waterproof yet breathable while still using non-PFAS materials.

FIT AND FINISH
Visually, the Velocio One jacket has Velocio’s minimal design with a solid color scheme and a streamline fit. Velocio only offers the jacket in this navy color currently but does offer a women’s specific version at the same price. As with all Velocio products, the branding is limited to a few subtle reflective logos which help give the jacket a premium look. The outside of the jacket has a solid color scheme with color matched zipper while the inside has darker accents along the sleeves and color and a light inner material for contrast. This jacket also feels premium with a nice soft feel that doesn’t feel like the plastic feel you typically associated with waterproof jackets. The One jacket is constructed from 53% polyamide and 47% polyester and utilizes Polartec Power Shield membrane. As an eco-conscious company, Velocio has also ensured the jacket contains no PFAS to avoid forever chemicals and used a 45% bio-based membrane.
Along the front the most prominent feature is the full length front zipper with extended cover. The wide flap prevents wind from going through the color matched zipper and gives the jacket a unique appearance by concealing most of the zipper. There is a tall collar at the top for additional warmth and a subtle Velocio logo on the chest. The shape of the jacket is also contoured to give the One jacket a pro-fit that hugs your body. There are two long sleeves with a standard set-in stitching design with elastic cuffs to keep the wind out. On the rear of the jacket you’ll find three large pockets with the Velocio logo running down the center. There are minimal seams with the back piece being one large piece and the shoulder seam separating the front and the rear. On the bottom there is also a standard drop tail which provides additional coverage while riding in the aero position.
RIDING IMPRESSIONS
With an unusual amount of storms pushing rain and cold weather onto our California coast, the Velocio One jacket quickly became part of our riding kit. Our 6’1” 165lb test rider found the medium sized jacket to be a perfect fit with a nice slim fit but with enough space to accommodate extra layers. The fit is very similar to other Velocio size medium tops we’ve worn with well proportioned design that does not flap in the wind like other windbreakers. Despite being waterproof, the One Jacket is breathable and soft to the touch. We found it to be comfortable in temperatures as low as 40 Fahrenheit and as high as 60 Fahrenheit. The jacket isn’t as warm as the Velocio Merino Air Jacket, which we’d recommend for winter or colder temperatures, but has a nice amount of insulation for cooler temperatures and is more versatile for warmer temperatures.
THE VERDICT
Overall, we found the Velocio One Jacket to be a well designed and comfortable jacket. Velocio has combined Polartec Power Shield insulation to allow the One Jacket to be thin and lightweight yet still be waterproof and warm. We found the jacket to be breathable and comfortable in a wide range of temperatures. The simple solid color scheme and minimal branding makes the jacket look modern and premium. Although the jacket isn’t as warm as some of Velocio’s winter jackets, it’s an impressive balance that provides a lot more warmth than traditional windbreakers or waterproof shells. The main negatives with the jacket is the eye watering retail price and that it is only offered in one color currently. That said, the Velocio One Jacket offers an excellent balance between warmth and bulk with a breathable yet waterproof design.
