FIT & FINISH

Fizik’s Vento Infinito shoes are Fizik’s top cycling shoes that combine ultralight construction with stiff carbon outsoles. This is the latest generation of the Infinito shoes and features an engineered knitted upper that takes the shoes to the next level. Fizik currently offers the shoes in two color options: black and the coral version we have here. In our opinion, the coral color is a no-brainer as it combines orange and red colors in a digitized cross hatching graphic pattern. It’s a beautiful shoe with subtle Fizik branding on the side and on the rear. The black interior and wrap-around strap pair well with the all-black sole which gives the shoes a unique design that stands out on the road. The coral color is visually similar to the DMT KR0 but slightly more muted with more red tones.

Even though the R2 carbon soles lack an exposed carbon fiber finish, the well placed vents and stiff design perform well on the road.

Fizik has utilized a breathable knitted mesh base with targeted areas of heat-fused TPU yarn reinforcement. This gives the upper a highly flexible design that still keeps your feet securely in place. The upper is almost a one piece design with a slit cut down to accommodate a ventilated tongue on the front. If you look inside the shoe you can see the knitted upper is nearly transparent as the light is visible through the shoe. The Vento Infinito Knit Carbon shoes also feature a dual BOA Li2 closure system. This is the latest version of BOA’s dials which have low profile dials with micro tightening and loosing.Fizik describes the dual dial setup as a Volume Control System as you can independently adjust the ankle and toe boxes for a custom fit. The top dial controls a separate wrap-around strap that also provides arch support as you tighten the dial. The shoes also utilize textile webbing instead of plastic lace guides to balance tension and eliminate pressure points.

The combination of the breathable knit upper and dual BOA Li2 dials allow you to easily control and adjust the fit on the shoes.

To optimize performance, the Vento Infinito shoes use the new R2 Carbon outsoles which are one of the stiffest Fizik offers. This special carbon fiber layup keeps the weight of the shoes down while maximizing power transfer. Visually, the outsole has a tiered design with raised center that smoothly transitions between the toe bumper and replaceable heel bumper. This design helps conceal the large front vent and a rear vent along the inset channels of the outsole. The shoes are designed for 3-bolt SPD-SL or LOOK Keo setups with fore and aft adjustment along with basic markings. Note, the cleat position is also set back slightly compared to other shoes which optimize pedaling efficiency and aggressive riding positions. The simple foam insole also has extra padding attached to it along the cleat mounting area for additional isolation.

ON THE ROAD

With the knit construction we expected the shoes to be comfortable and well ventilated based on the appearance alone. Luckily, we weren’t disappointed as the EUR 40 versions fit like a glove right out of the box. Even with the standard width version, the toe box is open and spacious with a fit that’s similar to the Shimano RC3 shoes. The stiff carbon soles also provide a connected feel and direct power transfer through the pedals without any hot spots or pressure points. We also are fans of the coral color which has a unique and bright color scheme that helps you stay visible on the road and stands out from the sea of black and white shoes.

THE VERDICT

Overall, we found the Fizik Infinito Knit Carbon 2 shoes to be attractive and high performance shoes. The combination of the engineered knit construction, dual BOA dials and stiff carbon soles result in a lightweight and comfortable cycling shoe. We were impressed with the wide toe box and flexibility of the knit material and found them to be comfortable right out of the box. The knit texture and coral color scheme also help the shoes stand out on the road with their bright colors. We found the shoes to be well ventilated and comfortable for short or long rides without any pressure points. The Fizik Infinito Knit Carbon 2 are an excellent choice for cyclists looking for comfort, speed and style in their cycling shoes.
