iGPSPORT’s BSC lineup of computers are affordable and compact cycling computers tailored that offer options for new cyclists to experienced cyclists. The BSC300T is the latest addition to the lineup and adds a touch screen to the previous top-of-the-line BSC300 model. iGPSPORT has also taken the opportunity to improve the user interface and integrate some additional features as well as e-bike support. Retail price for the BSC300T is a competitive $149.90 which is actually lower than the BSC300’s original price. The computer retains its 2.4” color touch screen with a 320×240 resolution. iGPSPORT has also added their Strava’s Live Segment alternative which displays real-time offline performance on segments created on the iGSPORT app.

The iGPSPORT BSC300T takes the popular BSC300 computer and adds a responsive touch screen to the 2.4” color display.

UNBOXING

The iGPSPORT BSC300T comes in a compact gray cardboard box with a glossy graphic of the GPS on the front. Inside the box you’ll find:

  • BSC300T computer
  • Plastic handlebar mount + rubber straps
  • User manual

As with many newer products, the BSC300T does not include a USB-C charging cable so you’ll need to re-use an existing cable or purchase one separately.

MOUNTING

On the backside of the iGPSPORT BSC300T you’ll find a Garmin mount molded into the body. Unlike the more expensive iGSPORT iGS800 which has a metal Garmin puck, the BSC300T is plastic with the familiar two tab design that locks into place. It’s a simple and effective mount design that works with a wide variety of third-party mounts and one of our favorites. The only computer comes with a basic plastic handlebar mount with two o-ring setup that can be placed on a stem or handlebar. We’d highly recommend using an out-front mount like the Topeak UTF or Trek’s Blendr mounts instead to place the computer directly in front of the stem for optimal viewing angle.

FIT & FINISH

Visually, the iGPSPORT BSC300T looks almost identical to the BSC300 with a compact body and slim profile. The computer is only 82 x 53 x 14.5mm in size and has a relatively small 2.4” screen. iGPSPORT has updated some of the branding and tweaked the plastic body to give it a sleeker appearance by using smooth beveled edges and little details like the textured edge. iGPSPORT has added faux carbon fiber around the screen and a semi-gloss black finish to give the computer a premium appearance. To simplify the appearance, there are no button labels on the screen face, instead you have a small iGPSPORT logo, BSC300T along the side and iGPSPORT printed on the front edge of the computer.

The computer uses a standard Garmin quarter turn mount that is molded into the plastic body.

Despite the addition of a touch screen, the BSC300T also retains the BSC300’s six physical buttons. There are three buttons on the right side, two on the bottom and an additional one on the left. The USB-C charging port also is now at the bottom edge of the computer under a nice thick rubber cover instead of being under the computer. It’s a surprisingly flush fitting cover that blends into the body but has a slight cutout on the bottom to make it easier to pry open. iGPSPORT has also added a texturing to the sides of the computer which provides additional grip and helps make it easier to differentiate the right side buttons.

USER INTERFACE

One of the main changes to the BSC300T is the addition of a touch screen. This means you can use intuitive gestures or presses on the screen in addition to the standard six physical buttons to operate the computer. The top left button is colored red and powers the computer on and off with a long hold while a short press goes back a page on most screens. The user interface of the menus and screens have also received some minor updates and tweaks to the appearance. On the homepage you have a radial menu with five options: ride mode, training, segment, settings, history and navigation. The 2.4” screen is fairly small which makes the 320×240 resolution look sharp and crisp.

The IGS800 has a large 3.5″ screen with a slim profile that looks high-end.

You can swipe upward and downward to switch options or use the dedicated up/down arrows on the right side. Now that there is a touch screen you also have some nice shortcuts such as a tap on the riding screens to view the time and access menu options. There is also a swipe down from the top to view the quick status page with notifications, weather, temperature and other information. iGPSPORT has also made the computer easy to use with a dedicated start/pause button on the bottom right and a lap button on the bottom left. As with many computers, advanced options such as screen layouts and naming bike profiles have to be done on the companion iGPSPORT app.

REAL-TIME SEGMENTS

One of the most exciting features of the BSC300T is the real-time segment display. It mimics Strava’s Live Segment feature and allows you to view your relative time offset in real-time on segments without the need for subscriptions. It’s a fun way to monitor your progress and provide more motivation to push harder. In the current software, segments can only be created from previously recorded routes with simple adjustments for setting the start and end point. Once the segment is created and named it can be sent to the computer. While you are riding a special “nearby segments” screen is shown when you approach a segment. Once you are in a segment, the screen automatically switches to a special “segment” view which shows your relative time against your fastest time on the segment. This feature works offline which is impressive as it’s doing quite a few calculations on-the-fly to find segments and track time.

The BSC300T features iGSPORT’s clever Segment view which shows real-time progress on segments created on the iGPSPORT app.

iGPSPORT APP

The iGPSPORT app has a simple four tab design that lets you choose between home, activity, device and profile. On the home page you’ll find a summary of your latest activity, goal progress and recommended routes based on your location. The activity page has a more detailed summary of your loaded routes along with a calendar view and monthly totals. You can also view a summary of each recorded route to view the GPS data as well as lap metrics, speed zones and graph views of different data. Although it is not as detailed as Strava or other platforms, iGPSPORT has done a nice job with the UI and used attractive colors and developed a refined user interface.

The device page is the most relevant page which lets you connect to the BSC300T and update software, customize data layouts and adjust settings. All of the on-device settings are repeated here such as screen brightness and auto-settings. The app also lets you rename the bike profiles and modify the page layouts for each profile separately. Customizing the page layout is straightforward with drag-and-drop functionality as well as alternate layouts shown on the top. With the small size of the screen you are limited to four rows and two columns on each single page. iGPSPORT offers nearly an endless list of options for each data field from speed, power to lap metrics and fitness-level fields. There are also helpful graphic views such as radial views and curve displays.

RIDING IMPRESSIONS

Having recently completed the review for the iGSPORT iGS800 with its gigantic 3.5” it was a bit of an adjustment to get used to the iGPSPORT BSC300T’s 2.4” screen. Its small size does have some benefits though, as the color screen is bright and has great contrast when riding during the day or night. The addition of the touch screen makes it easy to swipe between pages, tap the screen to see the time and swipe down from the top to see the status page. iGPSPORT has done a great job making the user interface intuitive and easy to use with quick shortcuts to start a ride and view statuses. However, we found ourselves using the buttons to access specific items as the touch target size is small on many of the screens. That made it hard to use the touch screen with thicker winter gloves for more sensitive tasks like accessing menu items.

While the touch screen isn’t a game changer, it does improve the experience and doesn’t add anything to the retail price which is impressive. We were also happy to see the segment feature on this more budget friendly computer which lets you see real-time and offline elapsed time comparisons on segments created on the iGPSPORT app. The feature is a nice alternative to the subscription-only Strava Live Segment feature and was a great way to gauge performance. It’s still a new feature though, so there are some rough edges like the fact that you can’t see a history of your performance on a segment on the app yet.

The biggest downside of the iGSPORT BSC300T is iGPSPORT’s unreliable navigation algorithm. We had numerous issues such as artificial turns (sharp corners or hairpins on a canyon road count as individual turns) and the navigation getting confused with overlapping routes such as out-and-back loops. These issues are not specific to the BSC300T as we’ve experienced them on the iGSPORT iGS800 and even the previous iGS630. Unfortunately, iGSPORT hasn’t addressed the issue yet but we’re hopeful they add improvements as it is difficult to trust the computer on new routes.

THE VERDICT

Overall, we found the iGPSPORT BSC300T to be a responsive and easy to use cycling computer. iGPSPORT has taken their competitively priced BSC300 and added a touch screen to create the BSC300T. The computer retains its bright color touch screen but is easier to use with touch gestures. We were impressed with the iGPSPORT Segment feature which lets you see real-time offline elapsed times on segments created on the iGPSPORT app. The various quick shortcuts like the swipe down notification page and quick press status page let you quickly see vital information. As far as negatives, the BSC300T has the same unreliable navigation as other iGPSPORT computers and the touch targets are on the small side. That said, the iGPSPORT BSC300T offers a lot of value in a compact form factor.

  1. Can you enter a goal time on the real time segments that you have not achieved yet or is it always just against your PB?

    1. Not at this time. The iGPSPORT segment feature currently only shows a comparison with you’re own best time. You can’t even view a history of your performance for the segment through the iGPSPORT app. We’re hopeful iGPSPORT builds out the feature and makes it easier to see history and compare performance as you would on Strava.
