Although most cyclists associate Kryptonite with bike locks, the recently introduced Incite series of bike headlights and tail lights offer some features and designs. In this review we’ll be focusing on the brake sensor equipped Kryptonite Incite XBR tail light which is the brightest tail lights currently offered in the Incite series. With a maximum of 0.2 lux (lux is a measure of output on the ground vs. lumen which is total output from a source) output and curved beam optics, the XBR tail light is designed to distribute the beam to optimize visibility without blinding others behind you. The…

All-in-one or commuter bike lights offer a compact form factor by integrating the battery and lens into a single housing which makes it quick and easy to install as well as remove the light from the bike without having to deal with bulky battery packs. Unfortunately, most affordable commuter lights tend to use simple lens design that can blind oncoming cycling or traffic. Kryptonite’s new Incite lights offer a unique combination of anti-glare beam cutoff lenses with simple integrated design. In this review we’ll be looking at the mid-level Kryptonite Incite X6 headlight which offers 60 lux output and a…

If you’re a commuter or go on long rides, having a large capacity saddle bag is essential. Saddlebags allow you to carry extra tools, tubes, and even backup food to ensure you can handle roadside repairs and remain self supported. In this review we’ll be looking at the EVOC Seat Bag Tour Saddlebag. It’s offered in two sizes: a medium size with 0.7L capacity and a large size with 1L capacity. The Seat Bag Tour sits in the middle of EVOC’s saddlebag range, it’s bulkier than the more race ready and simply named Seat Bag but not as expansive as…

As a cyclist it can be daunting to share the road with cars and traffic. Most drivers these days are too busy on their phones to pay attention to the road so it’s easy to be overlooked when you’re on a bicycle. That means as a cyclist you need to not only ride defensively (i.e. assume everyone is out to get you), but you also need to take proactive steps with powerful lights, reflective clothing, and protective gear. Although you can ensure you are seen, it’s difficult to make sure you are heard as well. That’s where the Loud Bicycle…

When it comes to cycling sunglasses there are a lot of options on the market to choose from. Unfortunately most of them carry a premium price tag for the sunglasses as well as replacement lenses. That’s why we’re excited to be reviewing Bliz Fusion sunglasses which provide high-end features at a sub $100 $94.95 retail price. With the Fusion sunglasses you also won’t feel guilty for buying multiple lenses as they are currently available from only $26.95 for simple clear lens and go upto $44.95 for higher filter category variations. For those not familiar with the brand, Bliz is a…

The Kryptonite Incite X3 headlight and XR tail light are the most affordable variations in Kryptonite’s Incite product line. Even though Kryptonite is better known for bike locks, as with the other Incite lights, Kryptonite has focused on beam optics instead of simply raw output with the X3 and XR lights. In this review, we’ll be looking at the Kryptonite Incite X3/XR set which retails for about $8 less than it would cost to buy the lights individually. The X3 headlight features a dual aspherical lens design that focuses the light on the road with 30 lux of output and…

One of the most common questions we receive is “what’s the widest tire that fits the Decathlon Triban RC 520?”. While some versions of Decathlon’s websites list the maximum tire clearance to be 700×36, several people on a couple of bike forums have claimed to go higher. Wider tires not only have better grip but also offer a smoother ride in part to the lower pressures they require and taller side walls. This additional cushioning means that wider tires can soak up potholes if you’re commuting on rough city roads or provide more grip off road. Thanks to some help…

When it comes to bike pumps, Topeak’s JoeBlow series has been one of the most popular on the market. They are known for their durable design and reliability which makes them great for both amateur and expert cyclists. Although Topeak has numerous variations of the pump, the Sport line has been one of the best values. In this review, we’ll be looking at the new Topeak JoeBlow Sport Digital pump which incorporates a digital gauge into the Sport line of floor pumps. With a retail price of $89.95 the Sport Digital is the most affordable digital floor pump that Topeak…

The POC Octal was one of POC’s first road cycling helmets introduced to the market. Since its introduction, the helmet has won a number of awards and been praised for its unique styling and design. With POC having recently added a new color scheme to the Octal, and having recently reviewed the Ventral helmet variations, we thought it would be a good time to review the POC Octal helmet. To optimize the safety of the helmet, it features a variable EPS density foam that keeps the helmet light while providing protection at critical locations. It’s also highly ventilated with large…
