UNBOXING

The iGPSPORT BSC100S comes in a compact gray cardboard box with a glossy graphic of the GPS on the front. Inside the box you’ll find:

  • BSC100S computer
  • Plastic handlebar mount + rubber straps
  • User manual

As with many newer products, the BSC100S does not include a USB-C charging cable so you’ll need to re-use an existing cable or purchase one separately.

MOUNTING

iGPSPORT has incorporated a non-removable plastic Garmin mount to the base of the BSC100S’s plastic body to securely mount the computer. This is a standard quarter turn Garmin mount with two tabs that slide into a corresponding mount. Even though this is all plastic, the design works well for the light weight computer and lets you use nearly any third-party mount on the market. iGPSPORT includes a simple handlebar mount which uses two rubber straps to mount the computer on a handlebar or stem. We’d highly recommend using an out-front mount like the Topeak UTF or Trek’s Blendr mounts instead to place the computer directly in front of the stem for optimal viewing angle.

FIT & FINISH

The iGPSPORT BSC100S has a compact design with a tall 2.6” screen for improved visibility. Compared to today’s oversized computers, it feels fairly compact and has a glossy screen and tall bezels above and below the screen. In terms of dimensions, the BSC100S is a slim 86.7x51x14.9mm with angled front and rear edges. The computer has a semi-gloss black plastic body with subtle cutouts along the sides of the computer to give it a sleeker appearance. Branding is limited to the iGPSPORT logo on the front of the computer and above the screen. With this being a non-touch screen computer, there are two buttons on the bottom edge of the computer to control it. Each of the buttons has a raised design with labels next to them on the screen. On the back of the computer there is a flush rubber cover hiding the USB-C charging port.

The BSC100S uses a standard quarter-turn Garmin mount with a USB-C charging port on the bottom.

With the budget price of the computer, iGPSPORT has chosen a basic black and white predefined grid display. The pixels are placed in specific areas of the 2.6” screen which restricts text and icons to specific spots. iGPSPORT has used a four row design with a top notification bar that shows primary information like GPS, time and battery status. Below that is the main data display field with what they call a dynamic bar graph which is this radial bar graph. This can display speed, cadence, heart rate or other metrics with the bars adjusting based on the data field min and max range. Lap count and direction are shown next to the field. The bottom half of the screen is dedicated to four adjustable data fields that show current, average or max values. Using the iGSPORT app you can customize the values of these fields which is a nice feature to see on a budget computer.

USER INTERFACE

The iGPSPORT BSC100S has a non-touch screen design with a simple two button user interface. There is a power and the bottom left that can be held to turn the computer on or off, or start and pause a recording while the computer is on. The button on the right side switches between the visible pages or can be held down to stop and save an active recording or enter the configuration menu. The computer supports five basic configuration options on the device: E1 phone pairing, E2 UTC time zone, E3 sensor connectivity, E4 wheel diameter and E5 display units. Due to the predefined grid display the configuration screens are confusing with basic labels or subtle icons. You’ll need to use the iGPSPORT app to do any more advanced settings like enabling or disabling auto features or changing the display fields.

With its predefined grid display, the configuration screens on the computer are limited to basic screens for adjusting units and time.

iGPSPORT APP

The iGPSPORT app has a simple four tab design that lets you choose between home, activity, device and profile. On the home page you’ll find a summary of your latest activity, goal progress and recommended routes based on your location. The activity page has a more detailed summary of your loaded routes along with a calendar view and monthly totals. You can also view a summary of each recorded route to view the GPS data as well as lap metrics, speed zones and graph views of different data. Although it is not as detailed as Strava or other platforms, iGPSPORT has done a nice job with the UI and used attractive colors and developed a refined user interface.

With its simple predefined grid design, the BSC100S has a simple two button interface.

The device page is the most relevant page which lets you connect to the BSC100S and update software, customize data layouts and adjust settings. All of the on-device settings are repeated here such as display units and sensor connectivity. Using the app you can customize what is displayed on each page and the order of the pages. Due to the predefined grid design, the layouts cannot be changed but you can select from several options for each field. Compared to other budget computers, there is a nice amount of customization options with an intuitive app design. The iGPSPORT app also lets you download recorded rides and sync them with third-party software such as Strava.

RIDING IMPRESSIONS

Having reviewed the BSC300T, BSC200S and even the top iGPSPORT IGS800 we were happy to see how the entry-level BSC100S would stack up. The slightly taller 2.6″ helps create more space on the black and white screen with nice contrast in both low light and direct sunlight. We found the auto-start and auto-pause features to be a nice addition at this price point and were able to quickly pair our cadence sensor to the computer. While the BSC100S lacks navigation or a touchscreen, it’s budget price and customization on the iGPSPORT make it a great value. The BSC100S was our go-to computer for local rides as the simple screen don’t have distracting features or menus to worry about. However, with the simplified interface you do have to remember to hold the right button to save a ride and not accidentally shut the computer off. The battery also has long run time which means you don’t have to charge the computer that often compared to touch screen computers.

THE VERDICT

Overall, we found the iGPSPORT BSC100S to be a budget friendly and simple cycling computer. iGPSPORT has packed a surprising number of features into the sub $50 computer such as USB-C, a Garmin mount and customization via the iGPSPORT app. While the BSC100S lacks a color screen or premium features such as navigation, we found it to be simple and easy to use with a two button interface and high contrast display. The 2.6″ screen and long battery life make the BSC100S a great computer for those looking to track their performance. As far as negatives, we would have liked to see a light-sensor based backlight instead of time based and the configuration screens on the device are confusing so we’d recommend using the app. That said, the iGPSPORT BSC100S is a budget friendly computer for cyclists looking for a simple GPS cycling computer.
